Questions & Feedback

As always, we welcome your feedback and are happy to answer any questions you have regarding the information on this page, or any officiating related concern. As questions are posed, we will post them in a frequently asked questions (FAQ) section on this page. All inquiries should be sent to our VP of Officials - Jonathan Daclison (officials@nagva.org). Thank you!

USAV Rules - which edition?

NAGVA is currently using 2007-2008 USAV Rules and Regulations - we have not yet adopted changes found in 2008-2009 edition of USAV rules.

Ball Handling Rules

Currently, NAGVA has not adopted NCAA's "Athletic Play" and USAV's "Spectacular Effort" with regards to ball handling on 2nd and 3rd ball contact.

Championships 2010

There will be NO referee certifications done at Championships. As such, each team must have a certified R1 prior to Championships 2010, or that team will be required to pay for a Certified Referee to R1 the matches their team is to referee ($100 cost). No exams will be given after May 1, 2010.

NAGVA Referee & Scorekeeper Process

All certification exams are available to be taken online. At this point, tournaments will NOT be required continue offering clinics, so it will be important that each team ensure that they have both a certified official and scorekeeper before attending the tournament.

NOTE - Players must contact the VP of Officials using the form below no less than 10 days before attending the tournament. No exceptions will be made to this timing.

The new process is easy! Here are the steps:

    1. Review the officiating and scorekeeping presentations that are available on the "Documents and Forms" section of NAGVA Website.
    2. Complete the form at the bottom of this page, which will send your request to the NAGVA VP of Officials, Jonathan Daclison. Please be careful to indicate whether you are requesting to take either the refereeing, scorekeeping, or both exams.
    3. The NAGVA VP of Officials will process all requests within 3 days. There are two ways you can find your log-in information for the online exams, as described below:
      • You will be sent an e-mail which will provide you the information.
    4. If you are taking and pass the scorekeeping exam, the VP of Officials update your profile to reflect that you are a NAGVA certified scorekeeper.
    5. If you are taking and pass the refereeing exam, you must still be evaluated onsite at the tournament to be evaluated for the second (or practical) part of the certification. Players that need to be evaluated must contact the Tournament Director in order to be evaluated. The tournaments will then facilitate the evaluation and report the results to NAGVA. Upon passing both the online exam and practical, your profile will be updated with the certification information.
    6. Players who are currently USAV Certified Referees will be exempt from the NAGVA Referee and Scorekeeping requirements as long as he/she contacts the VP of Officials via e-mail (officials@nagva.org) and provides the following information: Full Name, Region, Current Ranking and Region Chair Name.

Please send any questions to the NAGVA VP of Officials using the form at the bottom of this page.
