NAGVA Response on Coronavirus COVID-19

Mar 5, 2020

Dear NAGVA Members,

By now, we have all been inundated with news about the latest coronavirus. However, because we have a busy few months with tournaments, we thought it would be prudent for us to reiterate some tips to try and minimize infection and potential spread of COVID-19:

* Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20-30 seconds or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that is at least 60% alcohol.

* Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth — this will lower the chance of passing germs into your system

* Cover your nose and mouth with your elbow or a tissue when coughing or sneezing and throw the tissue out immediately after. Do not cough or sneeze into your hand or fist.

* Avoid sharing cups, utensils, water bottles, etc.

* Bring your own whistles

* Get enough sleep and eat balanced meals

Additionally, many of our tournaments are hosted at public schools or community centers. Should COVID-19 spread, there is a possibility that venues (and possibly tournaments) may be forced to cancel because those venues have shut down. While we hope this does not happen, we must keep in mind that most facilities are out of Tournament Director control. Our Tournament Directors are monitoring their facilities and will keep participants up-to-date with any developments. As for Championships 2020, we will always be assessing new information coming from the CDC, WHO, and other reputable sources in making any decisions. At this time, we are not making any changes to the Championships program. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to myself or any NAGVA Board member. Our emails can be found on https://nagva.org/officers.

Sincerely,

Lew Smith
