NAGVA Rules Updates 2014-2015

Jun 13, 2014

NAGVA is very excited to announce that we are slowly but surely aligning our playing rules and regulations with USA Volleyball DCR 2013-2015. Below are the major rule changes NAGVA adopted: Centerline Violation: In addition to last season's rule, any body part including the feet or foot can completely cross the centerline as long as it does not present a safety hazard (judgment call). What this means in a paraphrased explanation, is that if a player's foot or feet crosses the centerline, it is ONLY ALLOWED or LEGAL if NO OTHER PLAYER is anywhere close when this occur. Sanctions - Yellow Card vs. Red Card: Yellow card is now a warning, no point awarded to opposing team (1 yellow card per match can be given). Red card is now a penalty, a point will be awarded to the opposing team Liberos: In a given match, if 1 libero is indicated in the line up sheet on a set, the team has the option to change the libero for the second or third set of the match. In a given mattch, if there are 2 liberos indicated in the line up sheet on a set, the team may not change liberos for the second/third set unless re-designation* occurs Note - Libero Redisgnation Rules: 1 libero in a match indicated the line-up sheet: captain or coach can redesignate if the libero has been declared unable to play and is out for that match; 2 liberos in a match indicated in the line-up sheet: if a libero has been declared unable to play, no re-designation will be allowed and the team will be allowed to play with the other libero. If for some reason the remaining libero was declared unable to play as well, a re-designation will be allowed Scoresheet: NAGVA also will be adopting the USAV current scoresheet Note: SF and Chicago Tournaments will be permitted to use the old scoresheet due to a limited transition time from DC Championships when these changes were announced and approved. R1 Exam: Due to the NAGVA website changing in the near future, the exam will remain the same, with 1 major change which is the Red Card being a penalty point and Yellow Card being a warning . For the R1 Exam, please stay tuned and an updated exam will be provided to the members once the new website is launched and proper communication / announcements will be provided to alert the membership Scoresheet: NAGVA is also adopting the USA Volleyball Scoresheet for this season. Again, with the NAGVA Website changing, SF and Chicago Tournaments will be permitted to use the old scoresheet from last season which is still available in http://nagva.org/docs.cfm. For the Scorer Exam, please stay tuned and a new exam will be provided to the members once the new website is launched and proper communication / announcements will be provided to alert the membership Training: NAGVA is committed too ensuring these rules changes are properly communicated and explained to the members. So similar to last years approach, NAGVA Officials will schedule "Rules and Regulations" calls either via conference call or WebEx to assist with this process. Sessions will be posted on the NAGVA Website and NAGVA Facebook pages. Any players interested in learning the current USA Volleyball Scoresheet, please click on this link: https://www.volleyballreftraining.com/training_materials_junior.php then select "Scorers Clinic" and a pop-up will appear, please select "Play Material" and a video voice-over tutorial will launch.
